On November 1, the GOING signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Sinan Carbon Neutrality Cooperation’ with Shinan-gun. This agreement marks the first official cooperation aimed at establishing a community-based carbon neutrality action model and driving a green transition.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ingi Jung, CEO of GOING, alongside approximately 20 members, and Dae-in Kim, Acting Governor of Shinan-gun, along with related public officials. The participants shared a joint vision for achieving carbon neutrality and discussed future tasks to pursue.
Shinan-gun has consistently driven carbon reduction and absorption initiatives utilizing marine and vegetation ecosystems, such as blue carbon, based on its natural environment designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. GOING plans to build an action-oriented cooperation model by linking the region's environmental resources with the organization's expertise.
Both entities agreed to cooperate in four key areas: △Joint planning and operation of climate change response projects, △Research, policy development, and commercialization support related to carbon neutrality, △Hosting academic research and seminars for environmental preservation and improvement, and △Establishing an information exchange framework to promote carbon policies and research. Moving forward, they plan to jointly pursue projects such as building a carbon credit-based model, preserving blue carbon and marine ecosystems, and operating community-participatory environmental education programs.
